For many of us, the past year and a half has done a number on our willpower in our day-to-day lives. Even Dan Snaith, better known as Caribou, gets it. The electronic producer’s new surprise track, “You Can Do It,” is a straightforward message for anyone in the midst of a motivational slump.
Built atop a gently-crescendoing house beat, “You Can Do It” is a synth-driven groove with just one lyric; “You can do it,” mutters a slightly distorted voice over and over again, until the sentiment becomes nearly unintelligible. In Times Like These, the notion is much appreciated, especially when packaged with the accompanying music video for “You Can Do It,” which features slow-motion clips of very cute puppies dashing through fields and catching Frisbees. Snaith’s latest Caribou record, Suddenly, arrived in February 2020. He’ll finally get to play some of the new music live when he heads out on a North American tour this November.
