John Mayer helped avoid a medical catastrophe at his concert in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. During his set at the Hollywood Palladium for SiriusXM and Pandora’s “Small Stage Series,” the crooner paused the show mid-song when he noticed a fan in the crowd had possibly fallen unconscious.
“Are they conscious?” he asked. “Give me a thumbs up if they’re alert.”
As the house lights turned on and medical personnel attended to the female fan, Mayer briefly went backstage to allow the medics to do their jobs. Once the attendee in question had been taken out in a wheelchair, he returned and resumed the show, telling the audience, “Anyone in the crowd who was worried, I’m told she waved goodbye, so she’s OK. Artists are showing more awareness of the health of their audiences following the death of 10 fans at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival in November. Earlier this week, Billie Eilish stopped her show in Atlanta to help a fan in distress.
Last month, Mayer tested positive for COVID-19, requiring him to back out of his planned performances with Dead & Company at the jam band’s Mexican festival Playing in the Sand. He’s also been grappling with the sudden loss of his friend Bob Saget since the comedian’s unexpected passing from brain trauma in early January.
Mayer none-the-less intends to kick off his upcoming solo arena tour as scheduled next week. Tickets are available to purchase here.
