Marilyn Monroe smiles while Norma Jeane sobs in the new teaser trailer for Blonde, the NC-17 biopic starring Ana de Armas. It arrives on Netflix September 23rd. Check out the Blonde teaser trailer below.
The 66-second clip opens with Monroe in the green room, crying while receiving makeup. “Please come,” she whispers. “Don’t abandon me.” The teaser ends a short time later in the same spot, as she practices her winningest smile. In between, we see colorized snapshots of the world’s biggest movie star striding down the red carpet or striking a pose on the silver screen, as well as more black and white imagery as she wraps her arms around herself and pushes through a crowd.
Blonde is directed by Andrew Dominik and based on Joyce Carol Oates’ 2000 novel of the same name. “Andrew’s ambitions were very clear from the start — to present a version of Marilyn Monroe’s life through her lens,” de Armas told Netflix Queue. “He wanted the world to experience what it actually felt like to not only be Marilyn, but also Norma Jeane. I found that to be the most daring, unapologetic, and feminist take on her story that I had ever seen.”
“It’s a demanding movie,” Dominik said to Screen Daily in February. “If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the fucking audience’s problem. It’s not running for public office. It’s an NC-17 movie about Marilyn Monroe, it’s kind of what you want, right? I want to go and see the NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story.” (The film reportedly includes a scene in which Monroe is sexually assaulted.)
de Armas recently co-starred in the James Bond film No Time to Die, as well as the erotic thriller Deep Water. In July you can catch her in The Gray Man with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans.
As for Monroe, she continues to fascinate audiences around the world, and fans still fight over her legacy. Kim Kardashian recently wore one of her iconic dresses to the Met Gala, and afterwards the dress appeared damaged.
