Lizzo’s “About Damn Time” is nominated for four MTV Video Music Awards this year, so naturally, she took the stage at the awards show to perform a medley of the song with another Special banger, “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready).” Watch a replay of her VMAs performance below.
Performing right after co-host Jack Harlow opened the show with Fergie, Lizzo hopped right into that TikTok-ready part of “About Damn Time” before performing “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready).” With a vibrant stage design ranging from neon, Dance Dance Revolution-style keyboards to a bright pink outfit change, the superstar brought the awards show the energy it needed, prompting a standing ovation from the likes of Taylor Swift and Lil Nas X.
Lizzo herself is up for Artist of the Year at this year’s VMAs, while “About Damn Time” was nominated for Song of the Summer, Song of the Year, Best Pop, and Video for Good (which it won). She last performed at the 2019 ceremony, where she delivered live renditions of her hits “Truth Hurts” and “Good as Hell.”
Lizzo’s latest album also features the song “Grrrls,” which drew controversy for containing the word “spaz.” After many pointed out that the word is considered an ableist slur, Lizzo issued a new version of the song without the word. Separately, she also pledged a $500,000 donation to Planned Parenthood in light of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which Live Nation agreed to match.
