Animal Collective members Brian “Geologist” Weitz and Josh “Deakin” Dibb contributed the score to Crestone, a new documentary about a group of SoundCloud rappers who live in solitude, growing weed, and making music for the Internet.

Crestone was written, produced, and directed by Marnie Ellen Hertzler. The documentary tells the story of a moment in the rappers’ lives when an old friend arrives to make a movie, consequently blurring reality and fiction in the process. The entire project was filmed in the desert of Crestone, Colorado over the course of eight days.

In the above video, Geologist and Deakin speak to Consequence of Sound about what attracted to them to the project and what they hoped to accomplish with their score. They also discuss how the pandemic has impacted their plans with Animal Collective as a whole and provide a status update on their next album.

Below, you can stream their score for Crestone and watch the film’s trailer.
