On Thursday, February 19th, Guernsey’s Auction House in New York City will be auctioning off the Holy Grail of guitars: a 1954 Les Paul known as “Black Beauty”. In this exclusive Q&A, Rock it Out! Blog host Sami Jarroush chats with Tom Doyle, Les Paul’s business partner and friend of over 40 years, and Arlan Ettinger, the President of Guernsey’s.
Doyle discusses what makes the guitar so special, it’s technical specifications, why it was the prototype for all other Les Paul guitars, and why he’s decided to auction it off. Ettinger, meanwhile, reveals the guitar’s value, how they came across the guitar, and how anyone can take part in the auction on Thursday.
