Halestorm released their latest album, Vicious, nearly a year ago, and they’ve been touring relentlessly in support of the LP ever since. The band is set to co-headline a U.S. tour with Alice Cooper this summer, and recently caught up with us backstage at the Sonic Temple festival in Ohio.
Singer-guitarist Lzzy Hale and bassist Josh Smith sat down with Heavy Consequence for a video interview (watch above) to discuss the album and its title track, as well as the band’s successful multi-leg tour with In This Moment and New Years Day.
Regarding that tour, which featured three bands fronted by powerful female singers, Lzzy told us, “It’s interesting to see it from my own perspective of [one time] being literally the only girl on tour, and … your’e carrying in your equipment, and people are like, ‘Oh, my girlfriend never does that for me!'”
She continued, “[It’s] kind of come full circle — not just women onstage, but we’ve met so many women tour managers, lighting directors, roadies, drum techs. And from our stage perspective, it’s like a good 60/40 female/male [crowd] in any given night in our audience.”
Lzzy also discussed her new signature Epiphone Explorer Outfit guitar, telling us, “We get these letters, nearly every day, from young fans — I’m talking about 7 year olds — and they will draw pictures of me, and they may get the “z” backwards in my name, but they draw the Explorer, so it’s become part of my uniform, and an extension of me.”
