Listening Party: “Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp A Butterfly”

A discussion on one of 2015's most ambitious releases

For this episode of the Listening Party, Consequence of Sound Associate Editor Sasha Geffen and Chicago Tribune music writer Britt Julious spotlight the ambitious new album from Kendrick Lamar, To Pimp A Butterfly.

Released earlier this month, the Compton MC’s third full-length to date incorporates elements of funk, spoken word poetry and jazz, as “honest, fearful, and unapologetic.” Lyrically, Kendrick tackles heavy-handed topics involving racism, oppression, and the black struggle.
