Once again, we’ve thrown on our favorite velvet robe, turned up the fire, and are here to regale you with stories of the greatest and most classic albums of all time. It’s a fresh, new perspective on why these albums are filed under “M” for masterpiece.
Following the release of 1992’s Kerplunk, Green Day was courted by a number of major record labels. After signing with Rob Cavallo’s Reprise Records, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool began work on their next album. Although their peers in the California punk scene dubbed them sell outs, the trio blazed forward and went on to create 1994’s Dookie.
The album would skyrocket the band to global acclaim, bringing punk rock to a mainstream audience on the backs of singles like “Basket Case”, “Longview”, and “Welcome To Paradise”. It earned a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, sold over 20 million copies, and is widely considered to be one of the best rock albums ever.
