The legendary Slayer surprised fans early last year when they announced that they would embark on a farewell tour. Now, after hitting the globe on multiple legs of the trek, the thrash masters are set to kick off the very final run of the tour.
The band’s North American jaunt runs from a November 2nd show in Asheville, North Carolina, through a two-night stand November 29th and 30th at The Forum in Slayer’s hometown of Los Angeles. Primus, Ministry, and Philip Anselmo & The Illegals (playing Pantera classics) are providing support.
With Slayer saying goodbye, Heavy Consequence gathered a number of artists in the rock and metal community to pay respect to the iconic metal act.
In the video above, you’ll see such musicians as Lamb of God’s Willie Adler and John Campbell, Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, Disturbed’s David Draiman, Killswitch Engage’s Jesse Leach, Alter Bridge’s Mark Tremonti, and more share their thoughts on Slayer’s legacy.
From first hearing Slayer’s music to marveling at the power of the band’s live show, these rockers all agree that Slayer are one of the most important and impactful acts in the history of metal.
“They’re so good at what they do, masters of the art,” Draiman told us. “So dark, so unapologetic in their subject matter, in creating art, and in their execution. They really defined the more hardcore end of thrash for generations to come.”

Morello recalled seeing his first Slayer show back in the ’80s, remembering “so much power and energy and craziness on the stage.”
Other artists who offered their reflections on Slayer include Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age), Opeth’s Mikael Åkerfeldt, Fever 333, Beartooth’s Caleb Shomo, Zeal & Ardor’s Manuel Gagneux, and Amigo the Devil.
