Rock it Out! Blog: “Is The 2nd Law scientifically accurate?”

Consequence of Sound‘s own Chris Coplan recently offered up his review of the new Muse album, The 2nd Law. But today’s Rock it Out! Blog episode takes the review one step further and dives into the album from a scientific standpoint.

In recent interviews, singer Matt Bellamy has stated that the album’s title and theme derived from a panel he attended in London which happened to discuss the 2nd law. ‘The laws of physics say that an economy based on endless growth is unsustainable,'” Bellamy explained. “Everyone is obsessed with constant, unchecked growth, and no one is pointing out that we might be maxing out.”

On Monday, Sami sat down with Dr. Dirk Morr, Professor of Physics at the University of Illinois at Chicago, to see whether or not the album actually has any connection with the 2nd law of thermodynamics.
