Rock it Out! Blog: “Metallica Head to Antarctica”

Welcome to Rock it Out! Blog Primetime! Our award-winning YouTube webshow will now be aired three days a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) at 8pm CT. In the coming week, we’ll be expanding the show, incorporating news, interviews, roundtable discussions, and other various segments into one episode.

Even after years of playing to rage-filled metalheads, Metallica’s next gig may well put them face-to-face with their toughest audience ever: massive glaciers and adorable penguins. This December, Coca-Cola Zero will ship the band down to Antarctica for what will be only the second concert ever on the continent.

On today’s episode of Rock it Out! Blog, Sami talks to someone who’s previously performed music in Antarctica: renowned diver and Arctic explorer Henry Kaiser (Kaiser is featured heavily in Werner Herzog’s Encounters At The End Of The World documentary.) The pair discuss the pros and cons of performing on the frozen continent, how Metallica’s actual concert might go down, and if walruses are as critical as they appear.
