We’re doing something a little different for this installment of RiO!Backstage. Instead of taking you on a VIP tour of a music venue, we’re going behind the scenes at one of our favorite rock radio stations in Chicago, 93.1 WXRT-FM.
Led by an incredible staff including National Radio Hall of Fame member Terri Hemmert, XRT has been providing the city of Chicago with an unfiltered mix of punk and rock music for over 40 years. The station was pivotal in introducing bands like The Clash and The Ramones to Chicago back in the ’70s. Today, XRT continues to offer air time to newer, independent artists, such as Wilco, Mumford and Sons, and Arcade Fire, in addition to presenting countless concerts throughout the city each year.
