The Killers met with Consequence ahead of their headlining set at Mad Cool Festival 2022 for an interview about new music and their favorite fest memories.
The band’s Brandon Flowers and Ronnie Vannucci Jr. spoke to our own Paolo Ragusa backstage about debuting their new song, “boy,” in front of the Mad Cool crowd. “We love an incline, we like a vertical. We accept all challenges,” Vannucci said about revealing fresh material in front of a festival audience. “It’s an unusual place to maybe break open a new song, in front of maybe an entire crowd that isn’t entirely composed of Killers fan, so it kind of makes us work a little extra hard at it.”
Flowers also shared some of his favorite festival memories, including their 2019 gig at Glastonbury. “The Pet Shop Boys came out and we did “Always on My Mind” and then we did “Human” with them. And then Johnny Marr came out, and we did “This Charming Man” and we did “Mr. Brightside” with him,” he recalled. “It was so wild. It was so surreal.”
